I have found that if you mix some liquid antacid with some desitin or other favorite cream you use it can help a lot. Sometimes the acidity of the waste can really irritate the childs skin and this neutralizes it as soon as it touches the skin. Also refrigerating it can be soothing and cooling after the wiping of a diaper change.

Another home remedy that I have used is browned flour. You just put a few tablespoons of flour in a frying pan and cook it over medium heat until it turns brown. Make sure you stir the whole time. It only takes a few minutes. Let the powder cool and store in a small tuperware container. Sprinkle a little on a dry bottom when you change them and it clears up diaper rash really fast. It is

A dermatologist once told me that the best over the counter diaper rash cream was Diaperene (although it is hard to find). This is obvious, but make sure your child's bottom is completely dry before applying any cream.

Claire is allergic to Pampers AND Huggies. Strange, right? We put her in Luvs and what we thought was diaper rash cleared right up. But we also use Vaseline. Wonderful stuff!

Just to echo the first two comments... vasaline and cloth diapers. They worked really well for my kids. My pediatrician told me that if I just let my kids run around without a diaper for 10 minutes a day, they'd never have diaper rash again.

it could be the diapers themselves...don't underestimate the chemical compounds in disposables.

ointments i live by are aquaphor (this stuff is great for EVERYTHING...chapped lips, skin, butt rash, etc.) and desitin CREAMY (not the sticky original stuff).
